Horace Smith was born on 3rd August 1919 (Ely Q3-1919 3B:683) son of Charles and Florence E. SMITH (née TAYLOR).

For the 1939 register he was a farm labourer/pigman, living with his parents at 2 The Beeches, Beeches Road, West Row. Father [28-1-1884] a farmer; mother [13-1-1898], brothers George [1-3-1921] cowman,and Charles R [11-12-1917] farm labourer. There is one closed record.


Being in the R.A.S.C., without further information, it is impossible to sort out exactly where or how he died, and Hanover war Cemetery was used for concentrating graves after the war. In fact Horace was originally buried in Hunfeld Cemetery and moved to Hanover on 11th June 1947.
